The Underlying Reason Why You Have Back Pain

Lower back pain is felt at the base of the back and it can be caused by heavy lifting,  overstretching the lower back muscles or by the displacement of an intervertebral disc.

It is common among people and it’s a disorder involving nerves, muscles, and bones located at the back pain. The pain can vary from dull ache to a sudden sharpness being felt by the individual. Such condition can be classified as acute, chronic or subchronic.

So what causes lower back pain? It can be a number of factors including:

Spinal Stenosis: This condition happens when the spinal column narrows, placing pressure on the nerves and spinal cord. This leads to numbness, pain, sensory loss and people who have it are vulnerable to experience severe conditions if not treated right away.

Infection: Conditions that involve infection of the discs, sacroiliac joints or vertebrae can also mean a problem for your lower back. Bacteria or fungi may spread from the infected tendons, skin, and muscles to the bone.

Strained Muscle Tissues or Ligaments: This can be caused by overstretching during an exercise session or not lifting heavy objects properly. This may sound like any minor problem, but they can have grave ramifications if not taken care of.

Scoliosis and other skeletal irregularities: This also includes brittle bones or Osteoporosis

Arthritis

Kidney Stones: If you are experiencing sharp pain in the lower back, especially on one side, you may be experiencing kidney stones.

Obesity, pregnancy, smoking, and a sedentary lifestyle can also increase one’s chances of developing lower back problems. The following list is some of the causes of such condition; there are many other reasons for lower back pain, so it’s essential to see a back pain specialist to fully determine the causes.

Direct injury can also be the cause of lower back pain. Over-the-counter medication can help to make the pain more bearable, but it’s not going to solve the cause of the problem.

Lower Back Pain Syndromes

Our spinal cord and nerves are complex systems that consist of bones, discs, tendons, and muscles that can be damaged by many factors. The first thing one needs to do is identify the source of the pain and taking the symptoms into account.

Below are the following complications or conditions associated with lower back pain:

  • Muscle spasms
  • Back feels sore when touched
  • Dull pain or numbness
  • Stiffness/difficult mobility
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Tingling sensations, almost like being poked with pins and needles

If you are suffering from any of the symptoms listed above, it’s time to take control of your lower back pain and see an expert. You can also keep a pain journal documenting the situations or activities that trigger the condition along with the right steps that will relieve you from the pain. This information will help you and your doctor get the best treatment for your lower back pain.

We Have Doctors to Help You with Lower Back Pain

Getting help from a physician can give you an insight on what causes your pain and why it’s not going away despite countless over the counter medications. Let our doctors at Tri-City Pain Associates give you the right treatment and diagnosis for your chronic pain.

We have knowledgeable San Antonio foot and ankle pain doctors if you are feeling pain in the lowest part of your bodies, such as in the ankle or foot. There is no pain we can’t take care of.

If the low back pain is caused by the pinching of a nerve, it can have an aggressive evolution, going to the impossibility to walk or even to paralysis. This is why it is important to set an appointment with your doctor in order to have your situation assessed and your condition properly diagnosed and treated.

As a general rule, any back pain that goes away within a few days with or without analgesics is classified as acute. If the pain persists for more than a few months, it is considered chronic and it should be thoroughly investigated in order to determine its causes.

This is not an easy task. It should be performed by a healthcare professional such as Interventional Pain Management. Our doctors will determine the type of treatment that needs to be followed. We treat pain conditions in San Antonio from headaches to sciatica.

I was referred by Dr. Homero Rodriguez to come and see Dr. Urfan Dar. I used to be a U.S. paratrooper, and after I hurt myself my lower back pain was so terrible that I couldn’t sleep at night. Dr. Dar is so good that I’ve been coming to him since 2002 . Dr. Dar pays attention to me when I tell him where I am hurting, and then takes care of the pain. He’s the best.

Dr Bengali is wonderful! I had my first C-sp epidural injection, he said it could take up to five days to feel relief. I was having a pain of 7 walking and after I woke up my pain went dramatically down to a 2. I had instant relief. I couldn’t believe it. I was so happy with his team and the results. Thanks Dr. Bengali!

  • Michael Philby

I have always had a good experience with the doctors, PA’s, and staff in the office. Their caring attitude towards their patients stands out. Another doctor I go to recommended them to me, and I’m glad she did. I’ve had issues with previous pain management offices: lack of caring, feeling like just another patient, rude behavior, extremely long waiting periods to see the doctor, and issues getting prescriptions. I highly recommend Tri-City pain management for issues you may have with chronic pain.
